Introduction to Oil Painting - 1½ Hours
Discover the fun of creating your very own professional looking oil painting you will be proud to frame and hang under the guidance of a professional artists, Robert and/or Susan Garden, Founders of the Robert Garden School of Art, in one inspiring workshop. You will meet all the requirements for earning your Belt Loop in Art and several of the requirements for the Academic Pin. Your drawing instruction will include basic elements of design including composition, lines and balance. You will mix colors on a special palette arranged in aerial perspective so you can “trick the eye” and you will learn the values of color in an object using the color wheel. All art supplies are included; canvas, easel, brushes, painting medium and detailed lesson plan. Wear old t-shirt and bring paper towels. Leaders, parents and siblings are welcome to participate. Location National Scouting Museum, Irving Texas and in other troop meeting locations.
The Magic of Silk Screening - 1 Hour
In this workshop, taught by Master Artist, Robert Garden, you will learn the process of making a silk screen and creating a design you can print on a t-shirt and also on paper using special paint. Elements of design to communicate an idea or message will be demonstrated. This will fulfill several of the requirements for an Academic Pin. Location National Scouting Museum, Irving, Texas and in other troop meeting locations.
Brownies Can Paint (Ages 6-8) I½ Hours
Young artists can create a beautiful 8 X 10 landscape or seascape in oil or acrylic under the patient guidance of professional artist and Certified Robert Garden Instructors. Students learn color mixing, use of the color wheel, perspective, composition, line and time-saving brush strokes as they start and finish an amazing painting in this fun and inspiring class. The workshop incorporates the Hobbies Part 1, 4, 5 & 6 and Try-its; Hobbies and Color and Shapes with all art supplies provided. Masterpieces will be ready to frame and hang. Leaders are welcome to paint too!
Class locations are at Brownie Troop location, Robert Garden Studio or Girl Scout Camp locations.
Jr Cadets Can Paint (Ages 9-12) 2 Hours
Junior artist will earn a badge in Drawing and Painting as they complete a landscape or seascape using 2 mediums; pencil for sketching and oil or acrylic. Employ the color wheel for mixing colors, use time-saving brushstrokes and learn aerial and linear perspective in a step-by-step paint-along workshop with professional artist and Master Instructor, Susan Rogers Garden. Read and discuss women’s role in art and various career opportunities in art. After individual critiques student will be proud to frame and display their finished paintings. All art supplies are provided. Leaders are welcome to paint too! Class locations are at Girl Scout Troop location, Robert Garden Studio or Girl Scout Camp locations.
